How will I know if the CPU inside my laptop is Genuine? I have Intel Core Duo T2050. What will it show on the device manager or on System Information? Help!
-
what do you mean by "geniune" ?
only intel makes intel chips. -
there is not 'faking' a cpu
AMD Makes
Athlons
Turions
Semprons
Opterons
Intel Makes
Core duo
Pentium M
Core 2 duo(desktop)
Core 2 duo(laptop)
Pentium 4(D)
celerons
xeons... -
Yea. If you meant genuine as in if you got the right chip then there are lots of software out there to show what kind of hardware you have in your computer.
or you can check your bios. -
I have never heard of counterfeit CPUs, are they out there?
-
Perhaps, you meant refurbished CPU, didnt you?
-
WHAT i mean is, I have a Core Duo T2050, then when I checked the System Info or Device manager of my pc, Will it say Intel Core Duo T2050 or just Genuine Intel (R) T2050?
-
AFAIK....Intel Core Duo T2050..but can go wrong.
-
AFAIK?!? I dont get it
-
AFAIK? as far as i know..hehe
anyway, would it be possible if a celeron m CPU is inside the laptop but on the device manager or system info, it's a different CPU? not the celeron?

Counterfeit chips used to be an issue way back in the day, but not anymore. It simply takes too much to make a CPU these days.
-
Yea, that's basically what I figured. If a company has the resources to produce modern processors, they might as well go legit with what they have..

Counterfeit CPU's has NEVER been about how hard it is to make a chip. Counterfeit CPU's has primarily been someone buying 1GHz chips, overclocking them to 1.5GHz by changing the multiplier and often overvolting, and then selling them at the price of the more expensive chip, pocketing the difference. It's really only an issue if you buy from a less than reputable dealer, and even then typically only something that's shown up in Asian markets. They're still "genuine" chips, just running out-of-spec, thus having a shorter lifespan, bugs, overheating, etc.

This has happened, indeed.
But I do remember in the late nineties, I think, some fakes rolling out of China or Taiwan.
