I know the "industry-standard" is 8 dead pixels per LCD. I also know that different PC sellers have different standards as far as what's replacement-worthy and what you have to live with regarding dead pixels.
So far I only have experience with 3 LCD monitors. The first and oldest LCD had zero dead pixels (back in '99 on an Inspiron 3500), the next had one dead pixel towards the edge of the screen (in '02 on a Dell 2000 FP), and the latest also has zero dead pixels ('06 e1705 WUXGA).
Anyway, the reason I am starting this thread is that I have read that dead pixels are not the problem that they once were, and wanted to back it up with "real-life" stories for anyone else who might be curious as to what "real-world" users have experienced as of late. This may come in useful for those who are debating whether or not to plunk down a couple hundred bucks for the "no dead pixel guarantees" that are out there.
So please post your experiences and opinions here if this is a topic of interest to you.
Thanks to all.![]()
edit: sorry! my FP was a 2000 FP, not 2001 FP so I corrected it above.

No dead pixels for me. I got Fujitsu N6210 late last summer, and at the time I could have asked Portable One to check for dead pixels for me - but for whatever reason, I didn't. Nothing lost. Beautiful screen.

I have one dead pixel on my Compaq.

New T60, no dead/stuck pixels (same on my 2000fp, but that's obviously quite a bit older).

I have one stuck pixel on my Acer 8204. Its in the upper right and you can only notice it when there is a black screen. Even then it is small because of the 1680x1050 resolution, its very small. I dont mind it at all anymore I forgot it's even there.

on My Toshiba A15, I have 2 stuck pixels. A blue one near the lower left hand corner, and a red one almost smack-dab in the middle

Thank you everyone for your responses. I know that for a lot of us when we spend good money on a system, especially a notebook, we would like to get perfect screens.
I read somewhere, I believe it was Chazman421, who said in another thread that something like 90% of people have no problems with their LCDs, and that seems much better than it was a few years ago.
I too, eventually forgot about the dead pixel in my 2000FP, and won't even see it unless I look for it. But it sure did sting when I opened up my $1500 (yes, it was that expensive when I bought it--yikes!) monitor box and had a dead pixel right from the start. At the time, Dell was only replacing LCDs with 8 or more dead pixels.
Otaku--I did notice that you offer a ZERO dead pixel policy on your systems and must say that is very enticing to me--considering other makers charge for such a guarantee. Please feel free to place a link to your lineup here in this thread--I think the readers of this thread are those who would love to see what you have to offer, considering the topic. -
No dead pixels on mines, I have a no dead pixel guarantee from ASUS as well, never got a chance to use it....fortunately

I have owned 5 LCDs, and not one has had a single dead or stuck (sub)pixel. I have several friends with multiple LCDs who have never experienced the dead pixel horror either. In fact, I've never seen a dead pixel outside of a school PC, and those screens are hit and scratched and yes, even dropped all the time. So yeah, I'd say it's really not a major issue for the average consumer.

i'm not too sure what dell's policy is, i think it's 5 or 7 dead/stuck pixels.
however, my 6000 came with 1 dead pixel. wasn't too bad. then, the 2nd day a pixel stuck on green. it was totally unworkable. i called dell. oh hold about 5 mins. girl picked up. i explained my situation, ready to fight, but she just said "no problem, sir, lemme set you up with a replacement computer." put me on hold for about 2 mins. came back on and said it was on the way and just put the old computer in the box and send it back with the provided labels.
new computer was perfect. perfect light spread. no pixel problems at all.
LCD Dead Pixels still a problem? Please post your experiences here...
