    Notebook is an HP DV1000.

LCD has severely uneven backlighting. Most of the screen is very dim, and the backlighting at the bottom edge as shown in the picture is very bright.

I'm trying to fix this for my aunt. I replaced my old Toshiba Qosmio screen so it wouldn't be my first time, but my question is: do you folks think this is an inverter issue? LCD issue? Entire screen assembly issue? CCFL alignment issue?

    Thanks in advanced.

    This what I know:
when the inverter is faulty the backlight stays off, so I may be wrong but I think you have a faulty pannel...

hoke your laptop to an external screen and see if it displays anything. This will allow you to check if the graphics.

Well, you know the backlight works ;)

If the backlight is powered, the inverter is working properly.
What I think happened, is that the system could have taken a beating on the screen, and the backlight could have come dislodged and moved. I am not sure how it happened, but I think that is the only problem.
Try taking the plastic bezel off of the sides of the LCD, and then analyze from their.
The panel looks like it is working fine, the backlight has simply come out of place, causing most of the light to bleed out instead of being retained behind the mylar backing of the lcd panel.

Before you do that I would suggest to point a tourch to the screen and see if you can see anything. If no picture than the panel would be fault.

    P.S.
Try your laptop with an external screen first

    what?
    a torch?
that will burn right through the screen, definitely a bad idea.
A flashlight will work, but definitely not a torch
