Does anyone know what would cause the above? I'm a software engineer, switched my CRT for a 2-display LCD and my eyes killed and turned bloodshot looking at them for 30 minutes without fail each and every time. I was in pain by the end of the day I could hardly see to drive home. I kept them for about 3 months then finally realized I wasn't adapting. I removed one, problem didn't go away so I switched back to my CRT and been spending 10+ hours in front of my CRT per day with no eye pain, bloodshotness, nor fatigue whatsoever.

I bought a gaming laptop with the best 17" screen possible and the best nVidia graphics card along with a Lenovo S10 netbook and my gaming laptop kills my eyes looking at it for 15 minutes, the netbook it's about 30 minutes (one uses flourescent backlighting the other LED). All my friends can look at either for hours on end without problems.

Have any idea why a CRT is fine I can look at them for hours while an LCD screen hurts my eyes and turns them bloodshot? I know one of my eyes is slightly off but I think most people are that way and this issue I have is not very common on the internet.

    Thanks

I think you're better off going to a doctor instead.

Thats so weird, You'd expect a reaction from the CRT not the LCD

Yeah, thats what I would think.

Again, Eye Doctor would be the best option.

Yeah, whenever I use a CRT without a UV filter, my eyes become bloody, itchy and teary after less than an hour. UV filters help a lot...

I haven't had a slightest issue with my CCFL laptop LCD...

Eyes are not color corrected this causes a bit of strain because the eye does not which color to focus on. If you are ultraviolet sensitive you see it as a way out of focus blue. This can be easily checked by getting some polycarbonate safety glasses. They refract the ultraviolet like a prism does. Look at a metal halide street lamp out of the side of the lens and you can see the ultraviolet as a deep blue smear.

I had an eye strain issue with a previous laptop screen of mine where I was basically seeing rainbows...

For something totally different; could this be an issue of the hertz (as in the flicker) of the fluorescent lighting in the room conflicting with the hertz of the back-light of the monitor? lol can that even happen?

Have you tried diming the backlighting?

Sounds like you have colour sensitivity to the back light of the LCD.

If your work does not involve colour correction you could try tinted glasses to change the light properties however you should really see an optician / doctor to make sure that you get your eyes sorted before any further problems are caused.

Sensitivity to fluorescent lights is well know so you will have to mention this to the doctor when you see them.
