For my birthday I plan to get this:

I want to use it as a monitor for my laptop while I use it in my bedroom, as I do a lot of photo editing, and my display at the moment is only 1280x800.
Will my laptop be able to connect to this TV (it has a VGA out port) and deliver a high quality image at the correct resolution?
I have an Aspire 5920 with Vista Ultimate x64 and an NVIDIA GeForce 8600M GS.

1680 x 1050 should be no problem.

shouldn't be an issue as long as you get the resolution right. I routintely hook up my netbook and my acer laptop to my lcd tv for 1366x768 resolution (samsung lna40a450 LCD TV)

Yeah, just tried it on my dad's 40" TV of the same resolution as yours - came out pretty good! Though it gave me 1360 rather than 1366, then it's not the most common resolution, I've not seen any monitors like that, whereas I've found monitors at 1680x1050.
However, I tried to run Rail Simulator, and it ran really slow on the TV, though it runs really fast on my laptop screen...any ideas? -
are you trying to output to both TV and your laptop at the same time when running the game?
what resolution is the game set up for? -
Would I be better investing in a large actual monitor for my laptop and a TV tuner than getting an actual TV? -
That TV is essentialy a 22" monitor with TV tuner built-in. Same deal really.

The only problem is that people have commented on the sound quality of the TV. Ah well, surround sound speakers will fix that!
Thanks mate.
