Right now I am stuck between a rock and a hard place, I have the choice of the MSI GT735 or the GX620. The GT735 comes with a WSXGA+ screen and the GX620 with a WXGA.

The GX620 has pretty much all I want in a laptop minus the screen which is where I need help.

When upgrading a screen, do I need to buy a brand specific panel or would any panel work granted it is the same size.

What are my options for the MSI GX620 if I want to upgrade to a WXGA+ or WSXGA+ ?

Upgrading a screen has been done but it cost almost as much as a laptop. Apple charges $189 just to replace the glass.

Not really...you can get WUXGA panels for under $200.

    My question still remains unanswered:

When upgrading a screen, do I need to buy a brand specific panel or would any panel work granted it is the same size.

All LCD panels are not the same.

You will need to do some research and/or open it up and snap some pictures. There are differences between CCFL and LED backlit panels which will require other components/cables.
