Is it possible to make your laptop screen appear darker in certain areas by cleaning it too hard / too much? What happens if you clean your screen too hard (short of cracking)?

Can you damage your backlight by pressing too hard?

Yes you can damage it. Its not the backlight though thats damaged, its the physical screen. They are called dark spots. (i know technical term).

The darker areas include: The entire bottom of my screen, about 1 inch high, excluding the corners. Both sides of my screen, except the bottom corners which are actually lighter! The dark sides actually angle inward as they go up the screen. The screen essentially "mirrirors" itself from the center. The dark area on the left is the same shape and size as that on the right.
My laptop is brand new. The screen is perfectuly usable. I dont even really notice it, unless I open a blank white screen, or possibly another solid color.
Does this sound like it's from cleaning too hard? -
