Is it possible to take a LED LCD from a newer laptop with a 16:10 ratio (ie: the Dell Latitude E6500), and install it in place of a CCFL LCD on a Dell Latitude D830?
What has to be changed? I'm pretty sure the internal mounting hardware is the same. What else is involved? Is the inverter different?
-
Mounting would be different i think. LED lit LCDs allow for the lid to be much thinner

Even if the inverter is different(and somehow I think it will be)you can remove the inverter of the LED LCD and sauder the cables to the old laptop.I too believe that mounting will be different.I have learnt a golden rule:Everything that can be different in different notebooks usually is.
..Good luck if you go through with the project,Keep us posted...

Interesting article describing a proposed implementation of a direct LED LCD conversion, including massive performance advantages on a retrofit.
In practice, lcdparts.net sells a kit that implements the above.
But barely anyone has tried it (the price was ridiculous...at $129...but they've dropped it to $80..). -
In lcdparts.net there was conversion kits and adapters. Better check there first, it would give better idea what kinds of parts are needed.
