So I another thread allowed me to find this "problem" on my M15x's wled screen. There is some pixel jitter or film graininess when i view this color. http://i1037.photobucket.com/albums/a458/miahsoul/Grainy.png
Is this normal, and if not, what would cause this problem?

Odd. The M15x's panel is supposed to be pretty high quality. Dithering is what you're seeing. Do some grey's appear to "crawl"?

white noise on a tv screen. Personally, I don't think its dithering because it only does this on certain hues of gray.perhaps I got a bad lcd??? -
I think there is really nothing you can do (at least I don't think so, because the problem is with the actual LCD screen, not software or anything else) .The only way to fix it is to replace it. It's a physical fault of the panel itself, it needs to be replaced with a good one to fix the issue.

It happened to my old DELL laptop inspiron 1720 on certain shades of red..

From what I'm hearing it's normal. I'm just guessing different monitors have different properties and the one on the M15x just seems to do this effect more pronounced on grays. I checked it on my desktop, which has a 300$ HP monitor and the effect is also seen, but greatly less apparent.

It is normal for some panels. Dithering is the panel's controller alternating certain pixels to darker/lighter colors, producing the desired middle color. If the panel can't natively reproduce the color displayed, then that's where you see dithering. It can really stand out with certain shades of red and grey. There's no fixing it, because it's a hardware feature. You can drop the "bit range" that your video card outputs, and loose alot of the dithering effects, but then you get stepping and less colors that are re-producible all around.

Hello all,
I'm new to the forum and I've been searching online for any help on my Dell XPS M1210 screen troubles. I found this thread and wondered maybe you can be of assistance. I've had it since 2007 and my service and warranty has long been expired. My screen has suddenly gotten grainy and has some "vibrating" and "jitteriness" in some portions of the screen (see attached pics). Also, when I drag windows around, the shadows "push" around the pixels. I can attach an external monitor and am able to view everything fine. However, I require portability and carrying around a heavy monitor or projector to class is not feasible.
Perhaps it's just a loose connection from the screen to the video card? Or has the LCD simply gone kaput after it's 3+ years of great service to me (but I have a 10 yr-old Dell Inspiron that still displays just fine after all these years)? I've updated and reinstalled the driver with no results so I don't think it's software-related. Any help or explanation of my issue would be greatly appreciated as I have final exams in 2 weeks.
Thanks in advance!
Harry

Interesting. Looks like several things could of happened:
* Liquid was spilled over the LCD, or the LCD was drowned in liquid lol...
* Cables are damaged
* LCD matrix is going kaput (rare.. very rare.. Most LCD matrices can last many years, only things that fail are the inverter for CCFL, or the CCFL lamp or the LED backlight)
LCD screen grainy?
