I ordered a Lenovo T400 three days ago before finding out about http://lenovo.com/cpp and am going to cancel for obvious reasons.
Should I re-order with the CCFL backlight I had originally selected or the LED? I noticed the LED made you choose the WXGA+, which I heard was better for text and worse for gaming. I plan to do a moderate amount of gaming on this machine.
I guess what I want to know is, will the LED be too bright? Is it bad for gaming? Will it increase power consumption? Is it worth it for an extra $80?

LED actually has lower power consumption. It will not be too bright because you can lower the brightness.
Most people prefer the looks of LED, I personally do not.
If gaming is important to you, the lower resolution may be the better choice for you. -
LED will not be too bright (you have control over that), LED uses less power. I don't know about the text game comparison? Higher resolution gives you more screen real estate which is nice in Office type applications. Lower resolution likely to give better frame rates with games.
Really resolution is personal choice. LED does seem to be nicer your choice $80? -
The WXGA+ is "worse" for gaming as it is a higher resolution, and makes the GPU work harder. The T400 only packs an HD3470, which is pretty weak for gaming. OPn average, a good LED backlight is twice as bright as a CCFL one, and uses about half as much power. I would recommend it, but you might not be as able to run games at native resolution with it.

3640 I believe but still not a powerhouse.

Thanks for the responses. I'm gonna head over to Circuit City and see the resolutions first hand.

As a rule of thumb, the higher the resolution the smaller things will be on screen when shown in the native resolution.
If the screen is not displayed at native resolution, traditionally there is a negative effect in picture quality due to the nature of an LCD.
When I had my 5796, I experimented with this and during gaming I saw little to no blurring effects or ghosting when used at a resolution smaller then native. Of course it didnt look as good at WUXGA but thats simply because of the resolution difference, not the actual physical production of the picture by the LCD.
So just remember, you can always make your resolution lower, but you can NEVER make your resolution higher then what is native to the LCD
Just my 2 Cents.
LED or CCFL?
