If your i5 is a dual core, the most memory it can support is 16 GB. Quad core models can do 32 GB.

    Hi All,

So if I can upgrade MY CPU to i7 then the motherboard will regconise 32gb ram. Is there any bios upgrade or configuration change that I need to do. Thanks in advance

no, but always worth looking at updating the bios before you upgrade the cpu.

i got a W541 and i'm looking at installing an i7-4940MX which should last me for a while.
