Ok, so i've got some news on my dv9308nr that I fried. I tried upgrading the Processor and it yielded anything but the desired results.

What had happened was that one of the screws for the LCD display went right through the ground and data wires of the display lid switch cable [connecting the lid switch board with the power board], leaving the power cable intact. The cable was still able to feed power to the display lid switch. This in turn caused a spike in the voltage of a LIF (Low Insertion Force) Cable connecting the Power board to the main board, which consequently caused the LIF cable to catch on fire and burn several wires. We were able to determine, however, that these were non-critical wires of the LIF that are damaged. The wires only control the Power LED on the front of the notebook. We were also able to determine that there is no damage to any other components except the cables.

We were able to solder the damaged wire on the LIF back together and prove that the notebook still works. However, if you hit the Shift key really hard on the notebook it causes the soldered wire to come in contact with the chasis, causing the Power LED to go out, but the laptop will remain on.

I'm now looking for a LIF cable. HP has been anything BUT supportive in this matter, probably because the tech support has no idea what these acronyms are that I'm throwing at them (LIF, ZIF, probably even CPU :D)

Does anybody know where to find a LIF cable (preferably for cheap?) Thanks :D

Darn you did good! Better than some techs! Sorry I don't know, your repair is beyond what I have ever had to do. Can you not insulate in some way? Good luck.

    Thanks!

right now we're using electrical tape. it works, but the way the LIF is soldered there's a part that sticks up and could come in contact with the chasis.

Low Insertion Force cable, it uses no locking bars compared to ZIF's

Your dv6500 should have 2 of them.

    mattbieg892,
if possible, you need to buy some small rubber or felt pads. If you stick them to the bottom of the keyboard (put one on either side of the LIF), than when you press down on the keyboard, the force is pushed through the rubber/felt pads, onto some other part of the chassis. The use of some kind of pad will create a small gap between the LIF and the keyboard, allowing you to still use the keyboard and not having to worry about the LIF being touched.

Also a mass amount of hot glue can also work, but it can get messy and hard to remove.

I have found a place which has them (I am not sure which you are looking for, but these should be what you are looking for)
