    Hi guys,

TL;DR: Are 2ch LVDS cables compatible with 1ch panels?

I'd like to upgrade my ProBook 450 G1 to IPS display. I've just bought 2ch LVDS cable (from ProBook 470 model) and I, before buying IPS panel, want to check if the cable works fine. I connected this 2ch cable to my laptop with 1ch TN display and it didn't work. Only backlight appeared. Is this cable (ordered from China) faulty or is it normal?

    Thanks

From my understanding, double channel mode means that the pins 19 - 30 are used for the transmission of even bits (representing the second channel) along with odd bits that are transmitted through the first few pins. In the single channel mode your display uses, only odd bits are transmitted. Thus, a 2ch cable should work for a 1ch panel. However, I could be wrong :)

Generally speaking, the higher the resolution and/or frequency of the picture, the more likely it is two channels are used. Just mentioning, in case your panel change comes with a resolution upgrade.

@aw_bln yes, the panel change comes with resolution upgrade. Current panel is 1366x768, and the new one will be 1920x1080. I think the same way as you. Simply some pins aren't used by 1ch panel and that's it. Theoretically it should've worked, but it didn't :vbfrown:

    New panel: http://www.panelook.cn/LP156WF4-SLB5_LG Display_15.6_LCM_overview_18872.html

Panelook says TN panel is 1ch and IPS panel is 2ch, so that's why I've bought the cable on ebay
