Hello,
I have a Lenovo Ideapad U310 that uses this screen: http://www.panelook.com/B133XTN01.0_AUO_13.3_LCM_overview_15346.html
This is a 13" TN 1366x768. I am thinking of upgrading it with this one: http://www.panelook.com/modeldetail.php?id=16742 a 1600x900 IPS screen using the same 40 pin LVDS interface.
Dimensions and voltage are also the same but the latter panel has "2 ch" whereas the original screen uses 1 channel.
Do you think the mod is feasibile with the existing cable?
Thanks!

Unlikely, only if the existing cable has superfluous wires (at least eight). While that is theoretically possible, it is not likely the manufacturer paid a $2 premium for the costlier component. Most probably you'll need a different cable from a similar Lenovo system that supported 900p or 1080p. Stripping the black fabric cover can verify this; the individual wires will be visible and there should be at most four of five 'blanks'.
Apart from the current cable, also check whether there's enough spare pins left on the motherboard's connector and whether the same motherboard was also used for panels with resolution 900p or more. Otherwise these pins will be 'dead' and wiring them will not do any good. Best verification is finding the motherboard schematics, via either its Quanta or Compal part number, whichever brand it happens to be.Starlight5 and kitestramuort like this.
LVDS screen upgrade: 1 channel vs 2 channels?
