    LVDS screen upgrade: 1 channel vs 2 channels?

    Unlikely, only if the existing cable has superfluous wires (at least eight). While that is theoretically possible, it is not likely the manufacturer paid a $2 premium for the costlier component. Most probably you'll need a different cable from a similar Lenovo system that supported 900p or 1080p. Stripping the black fabric cover can verify this; the individual wires will be visible and there should be at most four of five 'blanks'.

    Apart from the current cable, also check whether there's enough spare pins left on the motherboard's connector and whether the same motherboard was also used for panels with resolution 900p or more. Otherwise these pins will be 'dead' and wiring them will not do any good. Best verification is finding the motherboard schematics, via either its Quanta or Compal part number, whichever brand it happens to be.
