I have a pretty new sony c220e and today the "Y" key had stopped working, it freaked me out because the laptop is almost new, anyways after pushing it a couple of times and wasting my whole can of compressed air it started to work again.

I'm wondering is it possible to take the keypad apart (like you can do with a keyboard, like pop off the keys) or will that damage the pad? I really don't want to do it but just in case that key stops working again, I'm hoping that it was just some dust or something that collected in there, but I keep my laptop pretty clean so that shouldn't be the real issue.

Anyways it works now and seems fine. Has anyone experienced this and also what would of been the most common issue that had caused it, and in the future if the key stops working again can I pop it off like a regular keyboard to fix it?

    Thanks in advance. -Mark

With laptop keyboards it's kind of iffy. Some pop off, some break and need replacement.

Your best bet would be to call tech support and get the keyboard replaced. It should be covered since you haven't owned it over a year and it's a lot easier than screwing with the keys and possibly ****ing them up.

Usually you can take off the individual keys on a laptop keyboard. However, if there's a problem with like the sensor on the board, there's basically nothing you can do to fix it short of replacing the board.

Did the key depress normally but not work, or did the key stick? If it just stuck, then chances are you simply dislodged something and it is fine. I had a piece of rice stuck beneath a key of mine, I was able to pry the key off and remove it, but as mentioned, that does not always work.
