    Laptop + Giant TV?

    Hey everyone, we just bought a huge 50" HDTV (LG)


    Is it possible to hook it up to my laptop?? :p I wanna play games on the glorious monster TV!

    s-video cable should do it

    although i'm not sure how the game will play, i know movies and pictures work great though!

    I believe there will be some lag involved when gaming as there will be some analogue to digital and vice versa conversion going on, but I'm not certain.

    soooo, I simply get an S-video cable and connect my laptop to the HDTV with it?

    Dont I need to go into display settings on my laptop and change the screen to use blah blah

    Hang on a sec, doesnt S-video cables give out poor image quality?

    Are there any alternatives?

    Only cheap poor quality S-Video cables cause a degrade in quality of signal over a long distance (a few meters). Chances are that S-Video is the only TV-out port you have on your laptop, so there aren't really any alternatives.

    I shall go buy a nice gold plated cable and see how it works. Since I dont have a next-gen console to play on my HDTV, I may as well use my gaming notebook :p

    If you have a DVI port on your laptop, and your tv has an HDMI input, you can get a DVI to HDMI cable and game to your heart's content! Depending on your laptop's video card, you can use a two screen setup or you can have all video go to the tv instead of the laptop. Dump your audio output to your home theater receiver/amp and you'll be all set.

    wehay! I used the cable from my PC monitor and used it to hook up the laptop to the giant HDTV! :D

    My laptop = Best games console around :p
