8% wear in about a year isn't bad. I haven't own any modern notebooks for a year but I have been anywhere from 3-8% after 6 months.

ur actually quite well off... my old hp battery had 75% wear in 1 year although i followed the battery guide... my new one has 10% after a few months... and its stayed at that level so ur actually very well off... hp certainly makes excellent batteries..

The wear level of my acer aspire 5920g battery is 20% after 33 months. I only used it about 20-30 times, although most of the time the battery was still in my laptop eventhough I use it as a dekstop replacement.

That's pretty good. Wear isn't a linear thing, for instance, once you get down to 60%-50%, the wear actually starts to accelerate quite rapidly. On my first Dell battery, for instance, one month I was getting an hour and a half, the next, only 30 minutes.

Thankfully the Li-Ion cell shortage has abated somewhat, and you can get replacement batteries far less expensively than in the past.

8% wear is very good. I'm down to 73% after nearly owning my laptop for 1 year.

But, I am using BatteryMon to measure my wear. I'm dividing the current full charge capacity into the design change capacity to get 73%. My friends 6 year old HP battery shows 52% with this method which isn't true because it cannot last 2 minutes without being plugged into AC. So, I'm not sure how accurate programmes like BatterMon are

I only ever got an hour from my 6-cell battery in my lappie (blame desktop quad :D) but after 6 months it still gives exactly the same amount of charge that it gave when new. My tricks are to always drain the battery to 5% left, never to charge it when not using the computer and to always disconnect the power from the machine after switching off regardless if it is fully charged or not. I think overcharging is a major battery killer.

After reading through the NBR's battery guide, I decided to leave my laptop connected to the AC adapter at all times, but I removed the battery and stored it in a safe place. So far, I'm seeing lower temperatures, and I'm able to save my battery from charge cycles, hopefully prolonging it's life.

I have SIW and I like it,and trust it.I just meant that 2%(and more) is the wear on a brand new battery. If after 1 and a half years you have only 2% wear then hey good for you. :)
