I was recently in a motorcycle accident and somehow survived a sideswipe at 75mph. Unfortunately my Vaio SZ140 did not survive. Hard drive died and the guy at the school repair shop said the screen might still be good. He didn't say anything else except that it's not worth repairing.
Do you guys think that the CPU is still good? I was able to reuse the ram in my new Thinkpad. If the CPU is still good I plan on using it in a small form factor desktop.
Thanks alot all.

If all that died is the hard drive, then that's very easy to replace. You should find out exactly what's broken, and only then can you say it's not worth repairing.
What happens when you press the power button, does the computer turn on at all? -
Can't hurt to try, as CPUs aren't easily damaged by sheer g-forces. Do you have anyway of testing it?
-
A 75mph accident, wow I dont know how that laptop is still in one piece. CPU's are pretty durable, as long as the motorbike or anything else didnt drive over it, your processor should still be good.
I am sure the laptop is beaten up quite a bit, so your best bet, could be to buy a barebone laptop and just swap the parts which work.

Any non-moving part that does not appear to have damage is probably still in working condition, but I don't know for sure. Laptops are not meant to survive 75mph crashes.
At least you appear to be okay if you are on here typing messages! -
Yeah outside of road rash I'm doing alright. I slide under a hummer and luckily didnt touch the guy's tire. The inspection paper work from the school said that the logic board was snapped in addition to the hard drive being heavily damaged.
-
Logic board means you'd need at least a few hundred to repair it. The board has to be completely replaced, and the computer would be rebuilt.

The quote they offered me was $869 for parts and $250 for labor. I said forget it and got a thinkpad t60 that was on sale at school.
Laptop Broken is CPU still good?
