Is this the CPU or GPU, I want to say GPU since there are no Intel markings, plus the T5450 can't be soldered into the MB and the heatsink was just a piece of metal going over top, not even going into the fan (I suspect the CPU is on the other side of the MB since there's some tubing going underneath the MB).

PS. If it is the CPU, what are those little red balls on each corner holding it in place, can they be removed if I want to upgrade. Also, does anyone know of a full guide for the a200 (checked both a200 and a215 on irisvista, a215 seems closer to my model)?

it's a GPU or MB Chipset. If the heatsink didn't even connect to the main coooling - it's deffo chipset

Good, since it seemed kinda weird that a CPU wouldn't have a proper heatsink.
PS. I just made a new thread since this kinda does/doesn't pertain to my other thread and I thought it would get more knowledgeable hits this way.

I am more inclined to say it`s the CPU, but seing you laptop and the fan , I don`t know exactly.
Try reading what`s on the back, usually it`s the serial for either a CPU or GPU.
CPUs ,as far as Intel ones go,usually have a fan. And the fan is somewhere else,so it might be the GPU.

I agree with NJoy, it's should be GPU, because CPU is always upgradeable and have a flat head screw on it.

    NOT TRUE AT ALL!

There are many laptops that do not have upgradeable processors because they are soldered on.

This was solved, it appears to me to be the northbridge since I pulled the MB out, flipped it over and under a nice little HS was my t5450. Right beside it was the GPU since I don't think the NB or CPU has dedicated memory built on externally (that'd be weird). Unfortunately I suffered a little casualty, I broke a piece of the case surrounding the expresscard slot when pulling out the MB, oh well, at least I never used it anyways. Plus it's probably nothing that a little super glue won't fix.

superglue can leave a hazy discoloration especially on glossy and or dark plastics...

i suggest JB WELD or JB QUICK,,, an epoxy found at any hardware or automotive store
