What's the normal range for idle and browsing? For CPU, which is the i7 4720HQ @2.6 Ghz, no overclock whatsoever.
I get around 50-60C when just using chrome and having my email run, is it high?
Only had the computer for a couple of weeks
It seems my cores are running at full and at around 800 Mhz with half a second intervals...
One moment its max and half a second later it goes all the way down, then up, then perhaps in the middle, it changes every half a second. Is this normal?
Also its quite hard to open the chassis on the back so cleaning/repasting etc. are almost impossible. Its also quite thin, the laptop. What can i do (if this isnt normal)?
EDIT: It's a MSI GS70 Stealth Pro by the way (2QE)

Yea, that seems a little bit high, around 40 degrees C is considered normal.

It's a bit on the higher end. Make sure theres clearance underneath for it to intake air well.
-
Nothing is blocking it other than me having it on a wooden desk. Even tried using a cooler that lifts it off the ground, to no avail. What can be the problem? Also CPU clock speeds seem to be fluctuating in half a second intervals.

Depends on what you're doing, and the laptop, ambient temps, etc. I idle in mid 40's but it can easily run in the 50's to 60's if some process is pushing the CPU a little bit.

with all the crap running in the background, like e-mail updates, programs/win updates, sync, dropbox etc. etc impossible to say what's running ATM without task manager and CPU should ramp up on demand so it's frequency will be jumping and because of that it's hard to say about your temps, real idle should be around 40-55c depending on all different factors posted above, but from OP post it doesn't seem it's idling most of the time. But it all doesn't matter that much anyhow, what OP should do is run some benchmark or something heavy duty and see temp. then, to see if it's throttling and overheating, since that could indicate some issues requiring fix.

Also, you haven't shown the speed at which that util is taking place. For example, I can see 15% util when mostly idle, but if the clockspeed is at 1.2GHz, then it's almost nothing. On the flip side, if I force my speeds to 3.5GHz 24/7, that "idle util" will be somewhere around 3-5%, but my CPU would run hotter as it's clocked higher (even though the load is the same). -
I see, but as I mentioned the clock speed is changing by the second, which I believe is abnormal as well, here is a video showing the fluctation: https://vid.me/CLvX
Also ambient is in the low 20s, still getting temps up to 50-60 as you do when room temperature is in the 30s -
What are your temperatures when you play a game? That's really the critical concern I think. Also, put your system in "performance mode" in windows power options, sometimes in balanced mode the speed will bounce like that any time the CPU gets any kind of load.

Either way, that is fairly high for low 20s ambient, but I don't know what your fan is like. You should better check with other users with your notebook for ambient temps. -
Personally I have never ever had CPU failure and I overclock my CPU's often, I had fan/water cooling failures leading to thermal shutdowns, overheating to 105c etc. You're running within designated specs and you're fine. Your CPU is responding to the demand of background tasks and it seems normal from your description (can't open your video file).
Are you listening to music, since you got spotify running? What do you do with speedfan? increasing fan or lowering its speed?
If your temps really bother you, you could:
1. kill some tasks/processes/ programs you don't use
2. use Intel XTU to lower CPU voltages, probably around -50mV should work fine without much testing, it should lower your temp by 3-5c without much effort
3. ramp up cooling using speedfan or similar
4. repaste CPU/GPU, but that most likely will void your warranty so I wouldn't recommend it, at least not yet.
I think your laptop is fine especially that you're saying you're idling, but in reality your graphs show 10-20 % load. When my laptop is idling I get 1-5% CPU usage. -
-
If you use them, leave them, you're fine as it is, just clean dust every 4-8 months and enjoy your new laptop.
-
CPU temps now up to 86 degrees in high perfonce moede and 70 degree GPU. Normal?

Laptop CPU temps high or normal?
