So my parents are getting a new laptop...and my current laptop could really use a bigger hard drive. Would a HD from their new hp laptop fit nicely into my year-old hp laptop.
Currently: hp dv600t 15.4" laptop w/ 80 GB HD 5400 rpm sata
parents will probably get just about the same thing, 15.4" intel, but w/ a 160-320 GB HD, depending on what is on sale (5400 rpm, SATA). If they did happen to get a 14", would the HDs still be swappable.
As an afterthought....what would swappability of RAM and things like graphics cards to accelerators be between these laptops?
Thanks a ton!

The HD will always be upgradeable.
You could choose any 2.5" sata HDD or SSD out there.
RAM could be upgraded aswell. But graphicscard is something you can forget to upgrade in 99% of the notebooks. -
the size of the notebook really does not matter as long as you do not buy a ultraportable which uses 1.8" harddrives. Your system currently uses a 2.5" standard notebook harddrive. You can use that harddrive in any notebook which accepts that standard size harddrive.
The only systems which use smaller harddrives are ultraportables. All 14" systems uses 2.5" harddrives, so you are good to go if you want to swap harddrives.
You cant swap graphics cards, only harddrives. The memory speed is mot slikely different between the two systems, so you cant swap memory between systems.

As long as they're the same interface (SATA or IDE) and it'll physically fit, then it should be good to go.
Laptop HD compatability question.
