Hi guys, hoping you can help…

Need to upgrade the hard drive in my laptop and want to be sure the one I buy has the exact same connection as my current one.

    I currently have a Hitachi HTS541616J9SA00 SATA 2.5" 160GB HDD (pictured below)

and wonder if I can buy and fit any SATA 2.5” HDD? Eg will any from the SATA 2.5" range from eBuyer here fit? I cant really tell from the pictures and worry mine may have an older connection than the ones on sale today.

Any advice would be much appreciated.

    Thank you

Any 2.5" 9.5mm SATA drive will work.

Any drive that says "SATA" will work.

But out out curiosity, why are you upgrading? Are you looking for more speed? More capacity? Or do you not care about that stuff, and just want to replace a defective part? Because we can probably make some recommendations on what part to get, if you can tell us what you want, and your budget.

that's great guys, really appreciate the replies - thank you.

Upgrading because iv filled this one up, works perfectly but it's just 120GB.

Had a few Western Digital's and they never let me down so im thinking of going for their 500gb, it's just £50 and 7200rpm too.

The Samsung spinpoint 1Tb drive is generally available for approx U$ 110-.

This is a 12.5mm drive so you need to be sure your laptops drive bay can fit it.

Sounds like a great choice, I have a WD5000BEKT in my notebook. Very fast.

Also take a look at the Hitachi 7K500 500GB 7200RPM, very similar performance and it's a tad quieter.

Seems like you keep your drives for a long time. The WD Black has a five-year warranty, best of any drive in its class.

In the end, can't go wrong with either.
