I posted the same problem on the AT forums, but since I wanted to get input for more websites, I am posting my question here also. Just in case you were wondering... :)

Yesterday I was removing the internal keyboard from my laptop, and I made one of the silliest moves I have ever made; I forgot to unlock the ZIFF connector... What I ended up doing was pulling out the locking device, and honestly have no idea where to buy one from. Are there any alternative ways to reconnect the keyboard's cable to the connector?

Here is a photograph of the connector, as can be seen, there is no locking device but I am pretty sure there is also no physical damage.

Here is a picture of the cable, kind of a bad photo but I hope it gets the point across.

Any suggestions or help will be appreciated. I need to know if there is an alternate way of keeping the keyboard cable in place other than the connector lock, and also where to buy a replacement locking connector from. Is there any way I could use electrical tape, or will its residue cause trouble. Thanks!

I think Duct tape is about as good as it will get, unless you order a new board which the connector is attatched. Theres no way to put the locking piece back on or did it break?

Hmm, the problem is I misplaced the locking device....again, another huge mistake. I am pretty sure, though, a new locking device can be connected, but I have no idea where to get one from. Right now, though, I'm trying to look for a temporary fix because I have to use the laptop tomorrow for a presentation. Now my other question is would duct tape cause trouble inside the laptop? By the way, thanks for the help!

Super glue or double sided tape?

I have seen that piece on eBay before, I had a friend break one. He bought a new one, put it in, and it was great. It shouldn't be anything too hard, just search around for it.

Been there done that. For me the DVD connecter locks snapped, I managed to get it in place via sticking pieces of paper in to get it to hold together.

It is almost impossible to fix the lock if it breaks into pieces, it is way too small and you won't be able to glue it back.

But seems like other people here have managed to find replacement on ebay?

Probably a stupid suggestion, but could it not be soldered in place?
