Have an old asus laptop that i use very little. I noticed that when i type something ... nothing shows up.
I open up google. I type keyboard letters into google... nothing shows up. However when i click the letter F... it would seem to click on the top right corner where the 3 horizontal lines are located right under the X. The google chrome settings.
I then use my touchpad or regular mouse. When i try to click on anything like picture i have or video etc or icons on my desktop.. it would open up the properties. Does anyone know how do i fix this issue? Basically i cannot type any letter anywhere.

More details might prove useful?
What specific model notebook? What O/S? When did it start doing this? Plugged in or on battery power (only/both)?
Does this issue continue in any other program besides chrome? Have you scanned for viruses lately? -
Numlock?

Open Notepad and test every key on your keyboard to see it works
Could be a numlock issue though but if that dont solve it try uninstalling your keyboard drivers and then reboot -
Windows 7. This was very recently. Plugged in and both but battery is no good. Basically once unplugged, laptop shut off immediately
Basically anything i click on does this... unless i click on start menu and then click on the program. Thus if i click on say avast or a program on desktop, it shows the properties of it. If i click on program using start menu... it does show up.
I scanned using malwarebytes. It did mention something trojan.something but i removed it. But this is using malwarebytes free. I have avast as well but doesnt detect anything.
Its definitely not number lock. I tried this.
The other thing that was strange was after a while... suddenly the mouse and touchpad it did click. But then when i shut the lid of my computer down then opened it up... have same issue. So same problem.
The thing though is i did recently go to certain sites where they have passwords for adult sites... and used it to log in etc. Could this be the cause of it? Thus i used a login and password from someone who posted free username/pass for an adult site.
heres another strange thing. When i click on tab... it would display all the windows i have opened in like a ruler... then each time i press tab... it would go to each window. -
cannot go to notepad and it requires me to type notepad which my keyboard cannot do...

When you're infected with a virus/spyware always scan in safe mode because you wont get rid of a virus completely when in normal mode
After that test your keyboard and if your keyboard still doesnt work then most likely its defective -
I did scan it in safe mode. It still has the same issue. So that means no virus... but my keyboard is the problem? But why when i use the mouse... same issue then? If i connect an external keyboard.... will it have the same issue?
-
The external keyboard wont have the same issue it'll be fine, but kinda defeat the purpose of a laptop
One last thing to try if you can is to open up your laptop until you get to where the ribbon cables of the keyboard and touchpad and unplug it and then replug them -
Starlight5 Yes, I'm a cat. What else is there to say, really?
@KING19 can you enter BIOS? Do keys work there? If not, check connection between motherboard and keyboard.

anyone?

We told you to check the connection between the keyboard and touchpad and reseat the cables if you can get into the laptop

Can u suggest something that does not require opening up laptop? Because i cannot do this... i dont know how to open up laptop.

Sadly its the only solution thats left before ruling that its a hardware problem. Sometimes in laptops after years of use the ribbon cables of the keyboard gets kinda loose so you would need to reseat the ribbon cables just to be sure that the components isnt defective. Other than that take it to a PC repair shop or buy a external keyboard

Drew, just use a repair shop. Every time you ask for advice here, it goes nowhere.
