Hey I've had my MSI-GX630 for 6 months now and it seems to be always overheating even during Idle sometimes. When I am playing a game it gets really hot (71 F) and it doesent seem to go down. Ive bought a cooling mat but that doesent do much. I've tried to undervolt it but when ever I install Right Mark Clock Utility it never recognizes my CPU...

    what should I do?

First, you mean 71C right and it is the CPU temp right?

Well, it certainly isn't a great temp but 71C isn't really anything to get really worried about. What are your ambient temps and idle temps? What do other people with your laptop get tempwise?

First, ditch the cooling mat and elevate the rear of your laptop so that there is air flow between your fans and the surface that the notebook is on. Second, you might want to invest in an active notebook cooler. You can read about a slew of notebook coolers here at NBR:

Third, when is the last time you cleaned out the vents in your latop? You may want to try using a can of compressed air and blow out any dust and debris that may be clogging your fans, fan blades, and exhaust ports/vents. Provided that you go this route, ensure that you don't over-rotate the fans while blowing, and never shake or hold the can of compressed air upside down while operating the can of air.

By the by, is your laptop overclocked?

Well on Idle CPU temp is around 58 C. When I load up a media software whether it's a game or a video, the CPU temp, GPU temp and everything else jumps up to 71 C. I think it also affects performance because there's the occasional lagging during those operations.

I haven't cleaned out my vents since I bought the laptop and no my laptop is not overclocked.

I've had my 1520 for two years, and I recently cleaned out the vents. There was a ton of dust in there, but 6 months isn't a very long time. It can't hurt to try. Maybe your fan is messed up. Or your heatsink might be broken.

Well, the CPU and GPU temps should be different. Are you using HWMonitor?

71C would be awesome for the GPU and kinda high for the CPU but 71C is really nothing to worry about considering there are many laptops that go into the high 80s or low 90s GPU wise.

K I just played a game to see how high the Temp will go and this is what I measured:
    ACPI: 82 C

    Both CPU temp: 82C

    GPU temp : 84 C

Notebooks should be maintained every month or every other month. Six months is a long time for a notebook to go without cleaning. That's like giving my dog a bath every six weeks instead of every week or two.

You got your answers already. Do them first, then report back on how it went.

Lol it's a generally well known fact that AMD processors have heat problems. So your's is not so bad. Even with a cooling pad etc my CPU can hit 90C and GPU can hit 80.
