Do all laptop panels fit into a generic standard and therefore are interchangable?

I have a toshiba x300 and i find the 1680x1050 screen to be too blue. I got the machine for the tech specs but would much prefer a better 1920x1200 LED or 2 CCFL screen.

Am i way out of the ball park here?

No, but many of them are. Nonetheless, your best bet is probably to find a display that's specifically made for your laptop instead of buying some random WUXGA LCD and hoping that it'll fit. It might, though; you never known until you try :D

You can also try to take out your current LCD, documenting the dimensions and where all the holes and/or mounting points are, and then looking for something with the same specifications... but this sort of information just isn't terribly easy to find...
