I am not sure if this is the correct place to ask this but i wasnt sure of which thread to post in. =/

    I just purchased a Toshiba M100 today, it has a core duo t2250 (1.73ghz 533mhz), 1.5gig RAM, 80gb hard drive (SATA 5400rpm i think).

I find that it takes at least 1 and a half minutes to startup, is this normal?
I also found that when i tried copying and pasteing about 700mb worth of data off a disk onto the hard drive, it took about 8 mins i think it was, whilst on my desktop with only 512mb RAM and an old AMD AthlonXP 2400+, it only took around 5 minutes...is this normal as well?

I was expecting a lot more, since im running a dual core on the laptop compared to an older AMD single core...

Thanks for any replies in advance.

    * i tried running the wPrime to test peformance and i got around 1minute and 30seconds...which appears pretty decent though =/

Please go to this thread and try the tweaks and tips stated there.

    http://forum.notebookreview.com/showthread.php?t=5787

My laptop used to boot in around 40-45 seconds. After I tried most of the tweaks and tips there, it now boots in around 15-20 seconds. O_O It's just amazing!

It's also because Toshiba fills the laptop with a lot of crap that slows down everything, especially start up. Laptops of common brandnames are like this. Acer, Dell, etc. But my friend's quite happy with his ASUS. They didn't fill his laptop with a lot of crap when he bought it.

Anyway, I hope you enjoy your new laptop. :)

Did you clean up/uninstall all the preloaded crapware on your laptop?

As the others have said, try cleaning the hard disk up, and get rid of any programs that start up on startup and uninstall progras that you don't use. Desktops often have much faster hard disks than notebooks, even from a few years back, so if the notebook still feels slow, then you may want to consider a faster 7200 RPM hard disk.

As I said try cleaning up your system from all the preloaded bloat ware.

    _________

I recently had to setup a new Toshiba notebook with 512mb ram and vista basic and 90% of the RAM was in use after the first boot up.

Although I admit it would have been better if the laptop had at a least a gig of ram.
