I've got a laptop with an issue that I think is a bit beyond geeksqaud. My Samsung laptop was recently dropped and will not boot. Can anyone recommend an established and reputable company to fix?

There is diy help in the samsung thread but I'm not interested in spending evening(s) on it.

If it was dropped, chances are the hard drive was damaged (if it was a mechanical drive). Replacing a hard drive is a simple thing and will not take up too much time. Save some money and do it yourself.

That would the best case, worst case is something on motherboard broke.. Try replacing HDD first, not too difficult however if motherboard is gone, time to get new laptop...

perfect excuse for a new laptop :vbtongue:

my old laptop dropped once and back then I don't know anything about computer so I asked someone to ask a technician to fix it for me. They told me it would cost me $200 for the labor only (the laptop is like $400). I sent it back to my parents and asked them to ask someone they knew to fix it. Turned out it was the HDD broken. So if your HDD is broken, the best way is to replace it yourself.

I don't know how to confirm if your HDD is broken but after my old laptop had been dropped, I could turn it on but there is some kind of message. So if your symptom is the same then it's probably the HDD.

What's your definition of "will not boot?" is there an error on the screen? Or does it not even get power.

If the laptop wasn't on when it dropped there's a good possibility your hard drive is still good, but if it doesn't turn on at all odds are it's going to cost you over 200 dollars easily to fix if you can find someone to fix it. (Bad motherboard and or screen)

Since you think it's a" a bit beyond geeksqaud" there are no other real chains of computer repair shops (At least around here" to take it to, you'd probably have to find someone on craigslist, but don't hesitate to ask around on facebook. You might be surprised who among your facebook friends will know how to fix it, or at least be able to recommend someone to you

Ultimately if it's the motherboard or a screen then as Kaze said it's a perfect excuse for a new laptop!
