Long story short, my laptop was run over. I don't know how many times. One edge of the laptop base is dented, and the screen is royally boned. Only one corner of the screen is barely visible, but it appears that the computer boots up and goes to my login screen.

How do I know that if I buy a laptop replacement screen that my hardware isn't messed up as well? Is there anyway to check?

I would hook up to an external monitor and then run a series of tests. First you can look in Device Manager for any problem hardware devices.

Benchmark programs such as PCMark05 and 3DMark06 would test must of the system functionality while playing a DVD would check the optical drive.

You will also need to go round the ports and check that they work.

PS: What brand / model notebook?
