Laptop Screen Upgrade - goes dark after installing Nvidia Drivers

Hello!
I needed a new laptop so I bought an Asus Rog Fx502vm because it was for a really good price, however I do photography colour work and the default TN panel was really really bad. So I saw quite a few cases of people online upgrading the screen successfully so went ahead and got a B156HAN04.2 compatible panel.
I managed to install it successfully, however on booting after the Asus logo, when it gets to windows it goes completely dark.
-the display is working, just backlight seems to be off, as if I shine a light on it I can see it's working.
- with external monitor, laptop works perfectly fine.
-If I access bios, and on windows recovery screen, the screen works normally
- I uninstalled the Nvidia 1060 drivers with DDU and after rebooting the display panel works well, so the backlight is only on when there are no Nvidia drivers installed. The display is awesome, super smooth and incredible colours, but as soon as I install the latest GPU drivers or windows auto-installs the default ones, the display goes black again.
- Installing the 378.78 nvidia drivers from 2017 seem to be the only ones where the display remained working, but after using it after an hour or so, the display went black again on these drivers.


I don't really know what to do at this point, so I'm really thankful in advance for all your attention and advice. Much love!

 

Managed to make some progress.
So I was following this thread which shares a very similar issue and as per recommendation of @t456 and experience of @shashank066 (thanks in advance) I tried to use CRU to mess with the monitor settings.
I didn't understand the part about " Reduced blankings' as I didn't find that option, and I didn't understand how exactly to force correct timings (But maybe I don't even have that issue), but what gave me some progress was:
Running CRU "Restart.exe" does nothing at first sight, but by mistake after doing this I let my computer go to sleep. After powering it back on from sleep Bam! Magic! Display works! Even on the new Nvidia Drivers.
If I turn off/restart computer now, display shows up dark. I connect it to external display, run "Restart.exe", put the computer lid down and when I bring it back up and the monitor always comes on.

can anyone help guide me in the right path? Would it be possible to analyze whats going on and what setting the "Restart.exe" is changing?

That is very similar to what I faced with that panel. I couldn't figure out why. The only messy workaround I could find was to connect it with an external display and restart with cru. I don't remember if restarting with cru, putting it to sleep and waking up made the display work.

Last workaround I came up with was to connect hdmi dummy plug and restarting cru with an autohotkey script at windows startup. It added 15 seconds more to boot time, display was still stuck at maximum brightness and I needed to plug the hdmi emulator atleast at startup. Tried it a few days and then couldn't take the max brightness. Sold the laptop and screen separately and built a desktop instead. The screen worked in a cheap dell laptop of the guy I sold to without going black at 1080p 120hz (still stuck at max brightness). Don't know if the cheap Dell laptop had a nvidia gpu (probably not).

If it helps I am attaching the autohotkey script. You could test it with external display. You would need to install autohotkey. Then open the "Restart Display.ahk" with notepad or any text editor. Change the paths of cru and other exe to your own drive paths. Save and run the script by double clicking ahk file (External monitor or hdmi emulator needs to be connected for script to work). You could then add the .ahk script to startup using task scheduler with a delay of 3 seconds. Messy workaround not a fix. Makes it work with hdmi dummy plug without needing external monitor.

Does restarting with cru and putting laptop to sleep brings back the display without needing an external monitor? Is putting the display to sleep a necessary step in your case?

For reducing timings:
Run CRU. Select your monitor from top dropdown menu. Click on add and then try "Automatic LCD standard" and "Automatic LCD reduced" instead of manual with the same resolution and refresh rate. After clicking ok, move the newly added resolution to top using arrow icon. Restart pc. If your laptop display starts with just cru restart and external monitor then this step isn't needed.
