Hi all, signed up as this seems to be the place to get some answers :)
(if any mods think this is suited elsewhere, please move :))

I'm looking at upgrading my Acer 5920G, well i am upgrading, i just need some help on sourcing parts in the UK really.

I want to change out my wireless adapter (its on a mini pci-e port) but cant seem to find anywhere that stocks them :(
So can anyone point me in the right direction?
I obviously want /n, is the Atheros chipset the best?
    And also any recommendations?

I also want to add bluetooth as well, is it possible to get a wireless/bluetooth combi card? that would be great but if not, again recommendations, i want it to be small, but not suffer on performance because its TOO small. If your wondering why size is an issue, it will be modded internally into the laptop along with an xbox360 controller connector via a mini usb hub connected to the back of one of the 4 usb ports on my laptop (I was going to include a readyboost drive as well, but with a memory upgrade, it seems pointless)

Upgrades already planned are 4gb of ocz mem (on its way, yes i have vista x64 :)), better hd, core 2 extreme cpu (next month, internal cooling already planned to compensate) and hopefully a gfx card, although i am still unsure of this.
As i understand it, mxm 1/2/3 slots are exactly the same, the only thing that changes is the size/hole placement/thermal output and power consumption. Now if this is correct it should be possible to upgrade to any card (psu permitting) as long as i make space, which i will :).

    So all help appreciated :).

    Welcome to notebook review

Your Acer 5920G is based around the intel core 2 duo socket p platform. Your system should be able to run any socket P processor, from the 7100 and up.

Having 4gb of memory is a good idea, but make sure that you bought ddrs sodimm memory for laptops.
It is not a great idea to upgrade to a mobile core 2 extreme processor, as they are extremely expensive and not really worth it. The best bang for the buck socket p processor is the T8300/T9300.

You will not be able to upgrade your graphics card. Your 8600m Gt is an MXM II card, but you have no options for upgrading to a faster card. You are stuck with your 8600gt. There are only two compatible gpu's, the 8600GT GDDR2 and the 8600GT GDDR3.

By the way, you do not have mini pci in your laptop, you have a mini pci express port for wireless.

This is the kind of wireless card you would want if you want 802.11n capabilities.
The Intel 4965 is teh best card at the moment,
Here is a link to one:

The gpu is on the right side of the picture below the heatsink.
The wireless is in the left corner, with an intel sticker on it.

    Cheers for the reply,

Yea ive got the correct memory, ordered pc6400, i know it cant run it at full speed, but the price was no different so i thought what the hell :)

I'm really after a Atheros chipset for obvious reasons :) Intels are no good for what i need unfortunatly, thanks anyway but ill have 2 keep looking

CPU: i know, but if i can, why not eh? ;) Ill easily utilise the cores in ps/3dsmax etc (i pretty much use this thing as my desktop now)

As for gfx, i know right now there isnt, but in the future there will be, as the electronical restraints of mxm dont differ thru each type (according to what i know anyway), i can easily redesign the cooling system and stick a different card in there :)

oh, i did say mini pci-e btw ;) and i know my way around a computer, i had it in bits to see what i could do before i posted :p lol

    [EDIT]
Found a Atheros chipset, ordered the Azurewave draft n mini pcie card for £20 and some tyco antennas for a few quid
Also ordered a 2 port usb hub and belkin bluetooth adapter for £15 to be modded into the laptop (will post pics of it when done :))
    [/EDIT]
    Thanks so far mate :)

May i ask why your choice is the Atheros before the intel?
