I was watching a movie and forgot about the battery being low then suddenly my laptop went into hibernation mode(black screen and it turned off) then when I plugged in my laptop and pushed the power button it stated resume windows and I'm worried if it can damage/harm the laptop.

My question is can this damage/harm the laptop?

No, neither sleep nor hibernation will damage anything. Hibernation is almost identical to a normal shut down; the difference is that the computer saves the current state of the system from RAM to the hard drive before shutting down.

Your laptop should be fine. :)

Right. Hibernation keeps your laptop FROM being harmed.

....unless it gets stuck and doesn't actually hibernate for like 20 minutes while its in your bag overheating. :/

Lol I see what you did there (I'm guessing you're referring to another thread).

OP - that's perfectly normal behavior. The laptop will do this for battery preservation reasons. Now if it does a cold shutdown, that's a preventative measure the laptop takes to avoid over heating.

That is perfectly normal behavior, nothing to worry about. Like Prostar said, it's essentially the same as shutting down and restarting, except you don't lose what you had open.
