Ok, I have a rather old laptop and:
- I replaced the fan with a brand new one
- Cleaned the heat sink (there was a lot of dust!)
- Removed old and replaced with new Thermal paste
I still don't understand why my laptop's fan goes to like 6000 RPM even if the temperature is like 40 deg C. Is there any way I can control this and set it manually?
I tried SpeedFan but it doesn't give me controls:

Here's some specs if that helps:
- Core i5 450M
- Nvidia 310M 1GB
- 8GB DDR3 1600MHz
- Intel 530 SSD 128GB
- Windows 8.1 Pro 64-bit

Speedfan usually doesn't work on laptops 99.9% of the time. Did you use the same fan model as the OEM fan? Did you check whether there was a sensor reporting a high temp somewhere, I've seen a faulty sensor cause high fan RPM before.

The fan you replaced must match the part number of the original fan otherwise mismatched fan can be problematic. Go back and check those parts number again to insure they are a match.
