    Laptop: Asus G1
Battery: 8 cell (not that i think these info matter, but anyways :p)

i've read a few threads and even a paragraph or 2 from the battery university's website (it's looooooong... and too technical :p), and yes it's best to take out the battery at 40% charged level, store it in fridge etc if the laptop's plugged in most of the time.

BUT, me being me, i've always had this iggy feeling/fear that there might be a power cut when i'm using the laptop, and if the battery's not in, everything that i've been doing (albeit unimportant/useless things most of the time :D) would be lost in an instant... annnnnd so the battery's still connected to the laptop 24/7 with the laptop plugged into the socket 24/7

now my question is... how much of a difference does this REALLY make... like... would the claimed 3.5 hours battery life (i've done some test and achieving around 3 hrs 20 mins -ish) be really badly impacted if i were to continue what i'm doing now? does it mean i'll need to replace the battery once every fullmoon if i don't stop this god forbidden nonsense?

    TIA :)

I frankly don't think it will really make a difference.

I don't own a G1, but I do have an A8Jm. I think around...5 months I recalibrated my battery(like...did the whole calibrate thingymajiggy) and it was hovering around 3-4% wear. Ive been just like you (AND using the battery to near drain) and the wear has remained the same. Im in my...10th month now.

    So probably not =)

It will really depend on your...computer's heat release. Im sure that will play a factor on the battery's life as well. My cpu only hits 45'C and HD only hits 37'C, but my battery sits on the OPPOSITE side of the computer, So im guessing it idles at near-room temperature (under the temperature where wear supposedly increases)

cool, that's good to know. thanks for the reply :D

the G1's quite cool most of the time on its own anyways, and just for the hell of it i've put it on top of a laptop cooler :) yes, i do plan to use this for a decade or so... er... right

i always read stickies before i ask questions, but thanks for the link :)

the guide seems to be tailored more towards people who're on the go ALL the time, and provides a battery care guide for them. my situ is a bit diff as actually i don't bring my laptop to work, and pretty much only use the laptop without having the AC adaptor connected once/twice every month when i bring it out to a cafe to do work, and taking the battery out for the other 28-29 days for the month (after waiting for it to go to the 40% level), recaliberating etc seems a bit tedious (on top of that my power-cut-peeves :D)

hence i created this thread in hopes to find more info regarding this particular issue, at more depth. sorry, i know it's d4mn annoying to see threads being created over and over again (hence the stickies), and i always try to minimise the possiblity of me looking like a n00b by asking the same q's that tonnes of others already have ;)
