Most nights i'll have my laptop on and plugged in while in bed and before I got to sleep i'll put the laptop into shutdown (or occasionally hibernate) and leave the laptop plugged in all night. As I don't want to have to get up to turn it off at the wall, I originally thought it best to leave it plugged in and on at the wall - rather than just unplugging the cord from the laptop while it's still on at the wall. But my last battery (original, 3 years old) just died and I got a new one, but now I want to know what's best - leaving it plugged in all night while still on at the wall, or unplugging it while still on at the wall... and on a regular occurrence (pretty much every night). Or does it not really matter all that much eitherway? Thanks.

Leave it plugged in. As there is circuitry controlling it, it doesn't really matter much.
