    Hi all,

I just put in a SAMSUNG HM160HC harddrive in my Panasonic CF-W5, and the laptop wont power up ... The battery charging light is on, but goes off when I push the power button. There is no other response whatsoever. When putting back in the old harddrive there is no problem powering up.

Is the harddrive broken, or do I need to change boot options or anything else in BIOS before changing the harddrive?

    Thanks for any help!

It sounds like the hard drive is dead. Can you try putting the drive into another computer to see if the problem hits the 2nd computer too?

Yes that is a bad drive, probably a short somewhere. Try Greg's suggestion and see if another computer has the same issue. My HM160HC has been doing great in my D600.

This a quite strange, but I used to own a Toshiba Tecra S1 with this same problem. What I did was replace the RAM, and the hard drive worked... I didnt understand why, but it did. Then It died a few months later, then I reballed the Intel ChipSet and it works today with no issues :)
