    Folks,

I have a 3-4 year old Toshiba laptop that has a controller with an EIDE interface and a 2.5" internal hard drive. I bought a hard drive (not knowing the differences at that time) and looks like it has a SATA interface from CompUSA as it was closing its stores. Now, that I try to install the new hard drive, I realized the issue. The SATA drive is also 2.5". Can any of you shed any light if there is a way to get an adapter so that I can use my SATA drive and yet fit it in the 2.5" bay on my laptop. I appreciate any guidance that will allow me to use the SATA drive.

    Thanks,
    Easwar

There are a couple of IDE -> SATA adapters but they are mainly for desktops, and due to the limitation of space in a 2.5" HDD slot/bay, you won't be able to use an adapter + SATA drive. Best to use that drive as an external storage solution, or sell/trade it (on ebay?) for a faster 2.5" IDE drive....

No. There is no way to fit a SATA drive into a IDE bay.

They only make those adapters for desktops. However, you can still use the HDD in a desktop if you have a standard SATA port and an SATA power connector.

If I were you I would just buy an external enclosure for that drive.

Your only option for now is to buy a SATA enclosure and use the drive as a USB external HD
