    Hi guys,

Just bought the Pavilion dv9646 a couple of days ago, try the link below to have a look.

    http://www.currys.co.uk/martprd/sto...jdjcflgceggdhhmdgmj.0&sku=804564&page=Product

Basically the problem is it seems to get really hot, and also the battery lasts barely 1.5 hrs or so. I was wondering if it might be due to the processor i.e. AMD Athlon 64 X2 Processor TK55. Or is it a problem you would expect to find with any entertained laptop, with similar specs.? Im assuming the large screen is also a factor in the low battery life.

Assuming the processor is indeed the problem, how would the AMD Turion 64 x2 TL 58 Processor perform with respect to heating and battery usage. I ask this since im tempted to return my laptop and buy the Pavilion dv9646EM instead(see link below).

Which brings up another question. Would appreciate someone from UK letting me know how likely the retailer (Currys) is to let me return the laptop since i have opened the laptop and the seals are broken. Or at the very least allow me to exchange it for a similar priced laptop.

    Thanks in advance.

TK's are pretty hot, they spit out a lot of heat all the time, they're just like that, idling is around low 50's to 60's C and under load maybe 80C.
1.5 hours battery time seems normal for a 17" AMD TK-55.
A TL-58 would be a tiny bit cooler which save a tiny bit of power but battery usage would be the same because of the higher clock speed.
    Sorry can't comment on Currys

So I take it there wouldnt be much difference in heating between TKs and TLs. What about Intel Core 2 Duos, are they any better with repect to heating and battery life?

Also, is it possible to get batteries with better life from HP.

Finally any idea how good the nVidia GeForce 7150M Graphics card is?

I would recommend one of those laptop pads with fans in it. They work really well.

Well my T72 is currently idling at 32 degrees. Battery life of 1.5 hours on a 17" is perfectly normal. Mine lasts roughly that I guess unless it's under load then it's more like 45mins-1 hour tops.

I dunno about the dv9xxx but the dv6xxx and dv2xxx has a tiny tiny vent hole on the bottom less than one square inch, thats the problem, no air is going through especially when you have on a bed or something

Laptop coolers help alot. I put one on my alienware 51m 7700 17 inch, and It makes it alot cooler. Just make shure you get one that is right for your laptop. Some push air up and some down so you dont want it to take air away from your lapy. They will make your lapy last longer if it gets hot.
