Does anyone can tell me if there are laptop heatsink modules manufacturers or each brand manufacture their own modules for each laptop?

Why I`m asking - many users, that have old laptops try to push the best performance from their machines. When playing with overclocking of course you face the main problem - overheating. Here each overclocker start to overhaul their cooling systems in the laptops. Some add new copper plates or coolers, use new thermal interfaces. Some even install water cooling systems.

But have anybode tried to purchase custom-made heatsink for their laptops?

I understand that it would be expensive if we compare the basic cost of heatsink module and one custom-made sollution. For instance, stock heatsink module is cost 50 eur, than custome-made would cost 150-200 eur.

    Now I`m just curious.

The manufacturers each have their own custom heatsinks, they probably outsource production to a third party and the heatpiped are also probably off the shelf parts, but the plate that goes onto the component is custom made as far as know.

Thank you. So there is no way to order a custom-made heatsink module.

Of course there is. Give a machine shop the dimensions, the material(s) you want used and your CC or blank cheque. It will be ready before you can say 'where did my money go'.

Basically a shop that will make you custom parts, any place where they have the various equipment to manufacture semi complex metal parts. In short, you'd give them a design made with CAD software (solidworks, etc.), specify the materials and they'd make it for you. That way, you could for example use slightly bigger heatpipes and make the whole thing out of copper, add extra fins on the plate, etc.

It will however be expensive, the materials won't be cheap and the labor will not either.

Yeah, but how they`ll fill the pipes with liquid and evaporate ceramics cappilaries inside them?

"They" don't. The heatpipes come pre-made from the heatpipe factory. There are not many manufacturers of heatpipes. Heatpipes come in many sizes and lengths, or they can be custom ordered. The factory that makes the heatsink gets the heatpipes they need, and they bend and kink them to fit their heatsinks.

By the way, this would make for one awesome mechanical engineering project.

If you want to go nuts with the design, you could optimize the materials for heat transfer and contact with the component, etc.

Clevo heatsinks are manufactured by Foxconn. Another manufacturer that comes to my mind is Compal.

Don't forget your preferred desktop cooler manufacturer. They do some of the notebook stuff as well, just don't get credit for it. As for custom fabrication - a few years ago, I asked a local water-jet and CNC machining firm, they said that they don't do one offs and if they were, the price would be... yeah, they don't do one offs :D Could be different now, but I wont bother, since I'd rather do it myself, like I did with my Acer.

I run a water jet if you want to send me something to quote.

Thanks, I'll have you in mind. It was about my Acer, even tough I have something in mind for my 8740w as well. Do you do soldering, or just the machining? You probably need 3D model as well, do you do it yourself, or I'll be the one that provides it?

We can't probably make the entire heat sink. If you want something water jet cut, I can definitely help. 3D modeling and machining are possible too, sometimes from as little as a "napkin sketch" if the geometry is simple enough.
