Just wondering if any of you have done a heatsink mod on your laptop (portable Computers) and if so did it work for you as in keeping the unit GPU & CPU cooler and maintaining a stable temperature? Seen some mod that just make the unit hotter..
I did a heatsink/copper plate mod on my Dell M1330 XPS just to be on the safe side of things, as this unit has a nvidia GPU![]()

.
We have had these laptop since Aug and Dec 2007 so far all 3 are fine 1 has intel video chip. The units with the nvidia GPU temperatures would hit 70/80°C and that was just using the net no game play mind you in the summer here (La Reunion) temperature out side can hit 40°C and winter can drop to 18°C norm at moment 23 to 25°C so those temperature would also have that added effect on my units hitting such a high temp just surfing the net music playing.
I made a DIY 12v fan cooling pad for our laptops while at home this was fine..
Now I have almost completed my mod, I have no fear now using my laptop and taking it around with me without the added worries of the cooling pad..
I have left my laptop on since Monday morning surfing the net video editing
playing music just my normal daily use and a stable temp idling at 51°C GPU and not the high temperature as before.
So once again have you please attach photos, links etc...
Thanks for any feedback.

I installed a copper shim to my Dell Studio 1535 heatsink to cover the GPU:
The copper shim is the square on the bottom, to the right of the fan.
