Is it ok to run a laptop for 12-15 hours straight in 40 degree weather?
I figured since it's staying warm from running, it shouldn't be a problem but, could this cause any damage?

40C or 40F?
I'll assume 40F since 40C isn't really cold lol
No there shouldn't be any problem. I've seen people run MBPs in -10C and there didn't seem to be any damage. -
Anytime you bring electronics into warm indoor spaces from being outdoors you stand a high chance of humidity condensing on the machine, both outside AND inside. Not good.
When you are done outside, put the machine in a case to minimize airflow and leave it there for a few hours so that the machine has warmed up to ambient. -
Sorry, I meant 40F. The system is kept plenty warm from running intense tasks like Prime95 (w/screen closed). When I bring it in a warm room more like 70F, it doesn't show any sweat (condensation) on it.

I'd guess that humidity/moisture is most likely the second greatest threat (after heat) to electronic components. Still, I think the cold would effect you long before it effects your computer. -
Computers in general don't mind the cold, as long as it isn't too extreme. Only thing to be aware of is condensation, as mentioned earlier - give it 10-15 minutes indoors before turning it on and you should have no issues.
