Greetings all. I have a Lenovo v570 laptop I purchased a couple months ago and I have spilled beer on the keyboard. A number of keys do not function now. I took out the keyboard and inspected the inside of the computer for liquid and no liquid appeared to be on any of the components. Computer functions fine with an external keyboard, touch pad works fine, only problem is a number of keys on the keyboard dont work. No liquid appeared to come into contact at the keyboard connector inside the unit and as such I ordered a replacement keyboard. My question is: Is a replacement keyboard likely to solve the keyboard issue?

Tsunade_Hime such bacon. wow
Only way to know for sure it isn't the motherboard is to replace with a known good keyboard. Careful with the keyboard ZIF lever, if you break it off you need a new motherboard.

Thanks for response. Not much force needed to operate ZIF lever eh? I will handle with care. Interestingly, liquid seemed to drain out of the bottom of the machine. I discovered a small pool of liquid under the machine sometime after the spill, did a little bit of internet searching on the topic and apparently its a design feature of this laptop. Quoted from another site "Starting with the immediate successor to the T43, the T60, Lenovo added actual drain holes to the chassis of their laptops, and redesigned the keyboard assembly so that it had a slight rim all the way around it. So in theory, if you spill something into it, the rim will keep the liquid from spilling past the keyboard and into the guts, and the drain holes will channel the liquid through and out the bottom." Lets hope this design feature worked properly haha.

Well now, I'd say that's a pretty nifty feature.
You could also try putting the keyboard in an airtight container with some silica gel. You might get it working again or something. I did it with my phone once, keyboards aren't that much more complicated anyways. -

Instead of silica gel, try some rice and leave the whole notebook inside for a couple of days.
(The rice will absorb any/all moisture the notebook has).
Good luck. -
Leave the keyboard out in the sun for a day or dry thoroughly with a hot hair dryer.
Just make sure it is completely dry before re-assembling it. As the keyboard is damaged already, water wont do it any more harm so long as it is completely dry before re-assembly.
Give it a go, you can't make things any worse.
I have washed keyboards before with no problems. -
