Hello i recently got a new laptop dv6607nr

    AMD x2 TK-53 @ 1.7ghz
    1gig PC2 5300 667mhz ram...

    I upgrade the ram to PNY 2gig PC2 5300 667mhz ram...

However i was looking at CPU-Z yesterday and the ram was only running at 283.4mhz. The cpu was still running at 1.7ghz. I dont understand why the ram is not running at the full speed of 333mhz, or 667 effective. I was hoping someone could help me out. Is the cpu causing the ram to run at lower speeds. If so what can i do to help this. A64 tweaker doesnt work, and AMD overdrive doesnt either. Also the bios has no options to let me change any of the information. I also put the old two sticks that came with the laptop rated at 5300 or 667mhz and they are also running at 283.4mhz only different the old ram is running 1t command and the new one is only running 2t command. I have been very happy with the laptop top, it runs very well, however I think if the ram was running at the correct speeds it would be much better.

Should I change the ram, even though i think it will do nothing considering the old ram was running at the exact 283.4mhz speed. Should I upgrade the processor. Any tips will work. Thanks

Depends on the FSB of your processor. AFAIK, RAM can only run as fast as the motherboard/processor allow.

I'm assuming the FSB of your notebook is 533Mhz (283 x 2 = 533) so any RAM you install that can operate faster, maxxes out at 533Mhz.

    Hope that answers your question.

    CPU-Z info is

    Core Speed 1700.3mhz
    Multiplier x8.5
    Bus Speed 200mhz
    HT link 800mhz

    also btw, 283 x 2 is not 533, its 566

Since it is an AMD it does not have a traditional FSB it has "HyperTransport" likely runs at 1600Mhz. Now on to the question. I don't have the answer but you could use SiSoft to find out your maximum "memory bus" speed. Mine is 800Mhz but I run PC4200/4300.
