This is more of a curiosity question, but does anyone ever had this happened to their laptop screen? (Trying to link a pic I just took, not sure if I link it right though)

Edit: Tried to show the link as image but can't so I just reply using the screen pic lol

See the ghosting at the top? This happened maybe a year ago. At first it was a tiny line, like maybe a few millimeters but over the next a couple of weeks it keeps getting larger. At one point, after a month or two, almost 10% of the screen is covered with that, whatever it is. Strangely enough it starts getting smaller, and it's been about the size that it is now for sometime. I don't know what triggers it. My room always around 70 degree, and it's neither humid or too dry. Never had any laptop screen that does this before. I didn't think it's a burnout? Could it be liquid? Though that's not possible as I never have any liquid near it (I clean monitors with slightly damp paper towel, but I never had problem with that before). I don't know... Float some theories by me, so if it is something I did I could stop doing it xD. Also while I know cleaning screen with slightly damp paper towel might sound suspect, I've been doing it for as long as I owned laptops (so maybe 2 decades) and I'm always very careful, starting at the center of the screen to make sure there's barely any liquid. The idea is just to make the paper towel moist enough to trap dusts and by the time I wipe the screen borders they're usually almost dry and I ran through a dry paper towel right after using the damp towel). Anyway, any ideas appreciated. Ty

If I had to speculate and it's just that, since LCD screen consists of few layers, either layers are separating, or there is some uneven extra pressure on the screen under the bezel. If I was you I would take the bezel out and see, I also would look into maybe replacing the screen, if it's a standard screen, it could be less than $100. I had work on my laptops/ replace screen etc before, so usually I know what I'm doing, if you're not very handy or never took laptop apart, leave it alone, you could damage your laptop more than it is now.

Looks like the polariser layer is separating; if it's completely detached then you end up with a 100% white screen. You can check for this possibility by gently applying pressure on the bright marks while it's running; the effect should also disappear next to the area you're touching.

I think you guys are right, the spots somewhat disappear when I apply gentle pressure to it. I guess it's just wear and tear. Ty for the help guys. At first I was worried that it might be the "liquid" in LCD (is it an actual liquid?) that's leaking and worry it might be toxic lol. I guess I'll replace it sometime in the future if I still plan on using it (Its GPU is dead so I'm getting a new laptop soon, but I might keep it as a backup laptop or give it to my niece)
