    Where are the matte monitors?
Where are the 4:3 or at least 16:9 monitors?
Where are the ~100 pixels per inch monitors?

Technology evolves. The "in" LCDs nowadays are glossy, 16:10 widescreen etc.

Their cheaper to make, and more in demand. Thus their more readily available than the old matte 4:3 ones.

I tried out some laptops at Costco, and the glossy screens were really annoying. Maybe it's the warehouse lighting, but no matter which way I turned (the laptop is bolted down), there was an annoying reflection on the screen.

The fastest laptop they had was a HP, with a T7300, 2x1GB DDR2-667, 8600GS, and 2x160GB 4200RPM. Tis a shame, the 8600GS sounded promising, but the hard drive speed and price ($1800) turned me off.

I prefer the matte screens myself.

Glossy screens are like that dave. They're best used indoors. If you plan on using it outdoors in the sunlight I'd suggest a matte screen. I prefer glossy screens in my honest opinion.

i prefer glossy myself.. matte is def nice if your eyes cant take a really bright screen... not that they are not bright just that the matte is easier on the eyes..

You know that's exactly what I thought when I went laptop shopping a few months ago. They're still around... you can find 'em if you look hard enough, they're just fewer and farther between XD

(Hopefully not necessarily a dying breed though)
