I have a Gateway P-6860 and i play a lot of games on it (Such as Call of Duty 4, and Call of Duty 1). My problem is, whenever i am playing either of these games my ping spikes randomly. I'll be playing fine then the top of my lagometer will get all yellow and my ping will be 2x the normal ping and i will get horrible lag. I tried to play my games on my network and my neighbors internet. Same problem, so i ruled out router fail, and internet fail.. right? I had the same laptop before i got this one, and returned it because of a problem with the hard drive to get my new one, but that laptop had the same problem too. Makes it hard/frustrating to play games =[
Anyone have any ideas?

Anyone have any ideas? =/
My HP Pavilion dv9000 had no problems like this on the same network/setup -
Are you doing this wirelessly or wired? if wired, have you tried another network cable? updated or different nic drivers?
-
Wireless.
Thanks for the reply. -
If it's wireless, try a different driver version, sometimes it can make a big difference.
-
How can i tell what driver to download for my wireless card?
-
Compare this version with the current version of your wireless network card.
-
Have you tried playing using the hardwired ethernet port?
-
Expand the network adapters and double-click on the wireless adapter, click on the driver tab and you can see the version. I can try to find you a different or newer version of the driver.
The one posted on Gateway support site is v11.1.1.22. -
Try this version, latest from Intel for your 4965AGN using Vista 64-bit:
http://downloadcenter.intel.com/Det... Vista* Home Premium, 64-bit version&lang=eng
Ver: 12.0.4.0 Date: 8/1/2008 -
Thank you very much. Ill try that now.
-
Still does it =[
I dont know what to do. -
Did you try connecting using the wired ethernet port?
-
-
Ok i just tried it with the wired Ethernet port. it did it once barley noticeable spike compared to the infinite hard lag spikes i was getting on wireless. What does this mean? Should i buy a new router? I am using a cheep one sent to me by Verizon. But if it is m wireless, then why did the same spikes happen on my neighbors wireless? Any help would be great.

Then its the Wireless Card - causing the problems.
Does your card have packet burst, if so disable it !! -
Thanks for the info. Can someone tell me how to disable it. I looked at th elink but didnt get it =[
-
It says:
-
Ok im so lost.. What software am i looking for ?
-
Maybe #4 - Link
-
Nope. Just tried it. All it did was show specs of what i had and the packet flow and stuff. Anyone know how to disable packet burst?
-
Try, Device Manager > The wireless card, right-click on it > Properties > Advanced, and see if you can edit any props.
-
Thats what it says when i do what you say. Could it be one of those? -
Disable Throughput Enhancement, and see if that makes a difference in gaming.
-
It already is disabled =[
-
You can try and enable it. It'll improve client to access point performance.
-
ok ill try it
-
Still does it =[
-
No one have any ideas huh?
-
Bump. (Its been a while, hopefully someone online will know how to help)
I just took a picture of the lag in action. I joined the server through the Call of Duty 4 server list and it said i would get 54 ping.. i got 400+

(Note the lagometer) -
Play using a wired connection....
-
It still does it though. And i would have to run a few hundred feet of ethernet up stairs and across my house.
