    Hi,

I wasn't quite sure where to post this, as I'm not sure exactly what brand the laptop is: I've not been told very much about it.

My friend has basically come running to me this morning saying that his laptop is starting up, and then restarting after a short time. He's really worried.

He's tried reseating the RAM and running HD Tune on the notebook.

I was going to run CoreTemp and Speedfan with Orthos to check CPU temperature later on, but just wanted to see if there was anything else I could do or was missing?

Many thanks and I'd really, really appreciate any help,

    Matt. Ireland

Sounds like a heat issue to me.

Anyway, you could try booting up in safe mode. If it doesn't restart, then it may be something else.

Thanks very much for the reply.

I had a look at the computer today, and it's a moderately oldish computer with XP on it - it doesn't have a brand on either - it just says "Notebook Computer" on the lid.

It had loads of spyware on it which I've now removed, but it won't boot into safe mode - it'll just stay on the black screen with lots of white writing on it for ages.

I'm going to test the RAM with MemTest86+ tomorrow, and then measure CPU temperature whilst giving it a workout in Orthos.

If there are any other suggestions, I'd really really appreciate them,

    Thanks again,

    Matt. I

If its a notebook computer, than its a Clevo system. If you post an image, we can probably tell you what model it is.
If not the Bios should tell you what system model it is.

You should probably back up his/her data and reformat the operating system, and that will solve any software conflicts if their are any.

If the problems keep occuring, than its time to give the system a good cleaning to get rid of dust and such, which could be causing the temperatures to rise.
