I have an Asus G1S. What sound card would you recommend I get?
Thanks,
Dodoman.
EDIT: I have 1 x Express card slot.

I'd recommend not upgrading, if your current sound works okay.
Most upgrade sound cards for laptops don't do a whole lot of the important things a sound card can do (digital signal processing, 3D positional audio) in hardware; they use the driver software to offload the functions to the CPU. You might get a little better sound, but IMO, it is more worthwhile to get yourself a quality set of headphones, canal phones, or speakers, which will give you better results. -
I'm getting a Beyerdynamic MMX1, which uses a usb interface. Will that negate my need to get a sound card?
I'm asking because people at OCAU and headphones.com.au recommened that I get a sound card to replace my onboard realtek sound. -
If you were talking about a desktop computer, adding a sound card might be a useful thing. There are quite a few discrete sound cards that greatly improve sound quality over the onboard sound of most mainboards. However, notebook sound cards are a different ballgame. There isn't a notebook sound card out there that truly does sound processing in hardware; there isn't enough space to put high end op-amp chips, DACs, and DSP chip on that tiny ExpressCard. You're paying mostly for software in the end, and if you're going to do that, you're best off buying a great set of analog headphones since a sound card really doesn't do much more than what already comes with the notebook.
I'm not normally a fan of video reviews, but this one explains what I said in my earlier post:

If your looking for a fully functional soundcard, go for a creative EXTERNAL sound card. There small "box" shaped sound "cards" and they have superior audio processing capabilities when compared to an Express card just as Lonewolf said. With the box you will not need a dongle to connect a set of 5.1/7.1 speakers as you would with the Expresscard i recommended

Thanks for the tips. Where can I get one of these ""box" shaped sound "cards""?
