Hello, wondering if you can offer some advice. When I have headphones plugged into the socket on my Thinkpad Edge, I can hear a high pitched scratching noise. I have noticed that sound only starts once Windows is fully loaded. The sound also stops when playing video games, so I don't think it's a hardware issue. Any suggestions?

Would it also help if I got a USB soundcard - a decent one?

    Thanks.

Tried that. Do you think that sound interference from the laptop would be cancelled out with a good USB sound card?

Could it microphone feedback somehow? Try disabling the microphone and see what that does.

Tried that, too. No luck. The sound is there even when I disable the soundcard - so it's not a driver issue. I'm just wondering if I'm going to hear this distortion if I run a pair of headphones through a USB socket?

What do you mean by "windows fully loaded" ?
When your OS has boot up, or when your CPU is fully loaded ?
