Hey Everyone,
Thanks ahead of time for any help.
Im looking to build a gaming pc and want to take the i7-3630qm from my Dell XPS 15 and move it to the Desktop Build.
First off, is this possible?
and
If its been done, what board works best?
btw main reasoning is I mainly play BF3 and so some office work on the computer, the Dell just gets too hot and freezes during mid play, time for some power.
-
seems next to impossible
-
A mobile i7 has a completely different socket layout compared to the desktop i7, so it's not possible.
-
There are a few motherboards that can take mobile CPUs, but they are on the rather small and expensive side, not worth it in my opinion.
Here's an example: JetWay JNF9G-QM77 Socket G2 (rPGA 988B) Intel QM77 HDMI SATA 6Gb/s USB 3.0 Mini ITX Intel Motherboard - Newegg.com -
Looks like I will build without. Im going to just do amd x4 965 instead and run it with a OC gtx660

Karamazovmm Overthinking? Always!
you are going to bottleneck a lot on that cpu
-
-
Yeah why the lower end AMD? At least get the FX-6100.

Besides, I'd rather not have Intel having an actual monopoly in the market. But I digress. -
I agree with the others, OP should get at least a hex core FX. -
